Growing Shiitake Mushrooms – For anyone interested in growing your own mushrooms, there will be a mushroom workshop held at Brasstown Community Center on February 21, 1:00 – 4:00. This educational seminar will provide information and hands-on training for growing mushrooms. Registration fee will be $15 and will cover the cost of materials such as the mushroom spawn, tools, and wax. If you plan to attend, please bring with you three hardwood logs in the following dimensions: 4-6” inches in diameter by 3 to 4’ feet in length. Oak, poplar, and cherry are all suitable types of wood, however, oak is preferred for optimal growth and longevity.
Pre-registration is required and the deadline is 5 p.m. on February 17th.

Grafting Apple Trees Workshop – An apple tree grafting workshop will be held on Thursday, February 23, 1:00 p.m., at the Clay County Extension Office- 25 Riverside Circle Hayesville, NC. Participants will be taught the purpose and technique of grafting and will also have the opportunity to graft up to 5 trees on their own. There is a fee of $15 for 5 rootstocks. 

Pruning Fruit Tree Workshop – There will be an apple tree pruning workshop on Thursday, March 2, 1:00, in the lot between the Methodist cemetery and Ivie Funeral Home. Pruning education and a demonstration will be provided as well as a hands on opportunity for class participants. There is no fee for this workshop.
