On October 4, there will be a Referendum to continue the North Carolina Cattle Industry Assessment. With passage of the referendum, the North Carolina Cattlemen’s Association would continue to collect $1.00 per head sold, in addition to the National Beef Checkoff. Funds collected from the North Carolina cattle assessment would stay in the state and would continue the enhancement of programs for our youth, defense against laws and regulations detrimental to the industry, enhancing the image of cattle production in the state, research and education designed to assist in production of cattle in the state and promotion of North Carolina cattle and beef.
Voting Details Date: Thursday, October 4, 2018 Time: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
Polling Places: North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Clay County Center
Eligibility: Any North Carolina resident who can claim ownership of cattle, either beef or dairy. An owner must sign an affidavit sheet claiming age, ownership, and residency.
Age: Any cattle owner over the age of 18 on October 4, 2018.
Ballot Specifics: “Yes” indicates a vote in favor of continuing the state assessment program.“No” indicates a vote against continuing the state assessment program.
Absentee ballots will be available starting Monday, September 10, 2018, at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Clay County Center (25 Riverside Circle, Suite 2, Hayesville, NC 28904). For more information please call 828-389-6305.
