2020 is almost here, which means it is time to register for the 4-H Winter Semester here in Polk County. This semester, we have the following club offerings for 4-H’ers…

Unless noted, all clubs run from January through May and meet from 3:30–5 p.m.

Sewing Program (NOW FULL)- This annual program is open to youth 9–18. Each student is assigned an instructor. We provide everything needed, except the pattern and material, to take your child through the process of making a garment. The Winter program will start on Wednesday, January 20 and will run till March 18, meeting every Monday and Wednesday.

Cool Clovers Cloverbud Club (NOW FULL)- This monthly club for children age 5–8 lets them explore the world around them in an exciting and nurturing hands-on environment. Under the leadership of 4-H’er Katelyn Ruff, members learn socialization and life skills. This fall they learned about 4-H, keeping a pet, pumpkins, and making cookies. The first Cloverbud Club for Winter will be on January 14. This club has a material fee of $15.00.

Timber Time Woodworking Club (NOW FULL)- This semester, our woodworking members will get to practice their craft at a private woodworking studio in Mill Spring! This club for ages 9-18 helps students learn about the tools of the trade and how to operate them safely, making interesting wood crafts. To incorporate travel time to the studio this club will meet monthly from 3:30-6 p.m. Material fee for the club will be $30.00. The first Timber Time club for Winter will meet on January 17.

Kids in the Kitchen Cooking Club (NOW FULL)- Our Winter Cooking club meets on the second Thursday of the month. Youth 9 and up are learning their way around the kitchen, and our fall members have made burritos, healthy snacks, and learned to decorate a cake. Material fee for this club will be $20.00 and the first class will be on January 9. New class time for this club is from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each month.

Teen Council – We’re excited to announce the kickoff of a new year of Teen Council. Any student age 12-18 is invited to join for a regular monthly meeting as well as recreational trips, community service projects and other teen-centered activities. 4-H Teen Council can be a fun and rewarding way to build self-confidence, life skills, and lasting friendships. More info on Teen Council.

Homeschool Discovery Club (NOW FULL)- The newest club for 4-H youth in Polk County is for homeschoolers ages 11-18. The Winter semester of this club will be a “sampler” of regular 4-H clubs, so that members can take some of our other regular activities (such as cooking, sewing, and woodworking) for a test drive! Other club activities will be decided on by the group as a whole. There is no fee for this club and it will meet monthly on the first Thursday of each month, starting January 2.
