The NC 4-H Horse Program welcomes 4-H’ers across NC to participate in the Artistic  Expression & Creative Writing Events. You do have to be a member of NC 4-H to participate but you can enroll here if you are not a member already: 4HOnline. If you are a NC 4-H member already but have not re-enrolled for this year you will need to re-enroll before participating. If you are not sure about enrollment please contact Shannon Coleman, at shannon_coleman@ncsu.edu or call 828-837-2210 ext 4. Members do not have to be in a horse club to participate just in NC 4-H.

Entry Process & Rules Update: April 10, 2020
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NC State 4-H Horse Show, the entry and project submission process has been altered to make contest entry submission completely electronic.
Creative Writing Projects must be digitally submitted no later than 11:59 p.m., June 1, 2020. There is no entry fee for any division.
Artistic Expression Projects must be digitally submitted no later than 11:59 p.m., July 1, 2020. There is no entry fee for any division.
The sewing contest is temporarily suspended this year due to the nature of evaluation, we feel that we cannot evaluate this division well via virtual submission.

Craft Horse Contest –The purpose of the Craft Horse Contest is to provide an educational opportunity for participants to exhibit their craft skills pertaining to the horse project and to encourage participants to explore and develop economic alternatives for themselves and their horse.

Horse Drawing Contest – Broaden your horizons and use your creative talents to increase awareness of the horse project through drawing exhibitions.

Horse Painting Contest– Encourages members to apply their artistic talent within the horse project area by increasing their knowledge and skill in equine painting while learning the value of developing visual exhibits for a specific topic.

Poster project that shows an example of a 4-H Poster Project.

Horse Poster Contest – Provides a medium for youth to visually demonstrate their interest in horses. Enables youth to improve their skills in linking words and visuals to create an appealing display.

Horse Photography Contest – Encourages youth to gain self-confidence, while developing life-time photographic skills. While learning the value of organizing and developing visual exhibits, youth will increase their knowledge of photography as it relates to horses.

Horse Creative Writing Contests – Learn to become a more effective writer while exploring the wonderful world of horses.

This is a great time to be creative through your love of horses 4-H’ers,  so get to work and get those entries in!
