Greetings Clay County Extension Community,

It is with great pleasure that I begin my position as CED and Agriculture Agent for Clay County starting August 3, 2020. I look forward to supporting the outstanding Extension staff and programs in the county. I am also excited to get to know each and every one of you that are partners, participants, and supporters of Extension. Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss your needs related to agriculture or home gardening and anything related to all of our great Extension programs. I can be reached via email at lcgonzal@ncsu.edu or at our office at 828-389-6305.

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am lucky enough to have been born into a farming family in Maryland. I am so thankful to have grown up around agriculture and gardening and even more fortunate to be able to share my love of farming with others through my work with Extension. I have worked with Extension for over a decade with the University of Maryland Extension, the University of Florida Extension, and most recently with NC State Extension as the Regional Local Foods Agent dedicated to the Empowering Mountain Food Systems Program. In these positions, I have been able to work across Extension program areas including family and consumer science, 4H, agriculture, food systems, community development, and ag marketing. Prior to my career with Extension, I worked as a vegetable farmer and an elementary school teacher.

I will be reaching out to many of you in the coming weeks to set up meetings and get to know you better. I would love to have your input and feedback as we work on developing a vision for the future of Extension in Clay County.

Thank you and I look forward to serving you and all of the residents of Clay County.Lisa Carolina Gonzalez
