Clay County’s Youth 4-H Program, in collaboration with Family and Consumer Science Agents, hosted an engaging All About Apples Cooking Series for youth ages 5-18 throughout October. The series took place in the Clay County Center’s Community Room Kitchen, offering hands-on experiences focused on essential cooking skills such as kitchen safety, cutting, measuring, baking, and canning.
Participants explored various apple types, from Granny Smith to Red Delicious, to
discover their flavor profiles before dehydrating their own apple slices. The excitement peaked as they baked apple crisp and eagerly awaited the taste test.
In the final session, the youth enjoyed their homemade dehydrated apples and
prepared to can apple pie filling. They learned the canning process while making mini apple pies in muffin tins. Once the jars were sealed and the mini pies baked, they were thrilled to take home their delicious creations.
Stay tuned for upcoming 4-H programs—who knows what tasty projects are next! For
