The Clay County 4-H Program hosted a Sweet Treats Cooking Event on Valentine’s Day for local youth ages 10-18. Participants learned how to make a variety of chocolate-covered treats while enjoying a fun, hands-on experience.
With the help of volunteers Olivia and Jan, attendees melted dark, milk, and pink-colored vanilla chocolate. They dipped fresh strawberries, bananas, jumbo marshmallows, and pretzel sticks into the deliciously melted chocolate. To add a personal touch, they decorated their treats with festive sprinkles and pink, red, and white icing—plus a special 4-H green sprinkle for those in the know!
Throughout the afternoon, the youth explored different chocolate-melting techniques, including the double boiler method, while sneaking a few extra bites of fruit along the way. After dipping and decorating, they packaged their creations in beautiful individual boxes with decorative ribbons for an extra touch of flair.
It was a fun, sugar-filled day spent with friends and family, celebrating the simple art of making sweet treats. Be sure to look out for our next event—a 4-Part 4-H Cooking Series covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert!
