Clay County Farmers Market: Season in Review

(Updated: Nov. 25, 2024, 5:04 a.m.)

The Clay County Farmers Market celebrated a return to Hayesville this year, marking a successful season filled with fresh produce, local goods, and strong community support. Throughout the season, 16 vendors participated, offering a diverse array of locally grown vegetables, farm-fresh eggs, local honey, locally grown plants, canned goods, locally made cheeses, baked goods, and sweet treats.

Tusquittee Honey Farm was a popular vendor each week at the market.

The market aimed to foster connections between the community and local producers, a goal it achieved, even through the rainy or sweltering weather. Week after week, loyal customers returned to support the market, even braving occasional summer rain to stock up on their favorite goods.

Locally grown produce could be found most weeks throughout the summer months.

Unfortunately, the season was cut short at the end of September due to Hurricane Helene. This decision allowed Clay County staff to shift focus toward storm recovery efforts, assisting those impacted by the hurricane.

A special thanks goes out to Clay County Government and Clay County Parks & Recreation for generously providing the parking area at the ball fields. This support enabled the market to offer vendor spaces free of charge, increasing profit margins for our local producers and encouraging a thriving marketplace.
