Kim Terrell, our FCS Agent, was invited to participate in CCS' Staff Wellness Day which was held on March 18th. Staff learned about the importance of decreasing added sugars in their diet and got to prepare and taste healthy alternatives including protein power balls, hummus, ginger shots, and homemade trail mix. Terrell explained that eating a lot of added sugars can lead to weight gain and health conditions associated with being overweight as well as inflammation that can be caused by eating too much refined sugar. Recipes participants were able to try included ingredients to help boost immunity and gut health such as fresh ginger, cayenne pepper, legumes, chia seeds, flaxseed, roasted nuts, and seeds.
