Clay County 4-H recently had the opportunity to spend time with all 4th grade students at Hayesville Elementary School through the engaging Magic of Electricity School Enrichment curriculum. This hands-on program sparked curiosity and creativity as students explored the fundamentals of electricity through interactive lessons and experiments.

During Bright Lights, students built their very own basic flashlights, learning how energy flows through a simple circuit. In Control the Flow and Conducting Things, youth constructed a working switch to power a light bulb on and off, then tested a variety of materials to determine whether they were conductors or insulators.

The excitement continued with Circuit Sense and Is There a Fork in the Road?, where students built open and closed circuits and discovered the difference between series and parallel circuits by predicting and testing whether their bulbs would light.

We wrapped up with the most challenging and rewarding lesson, Make It Spin, where students built small electric motors. With the help of a magnet, their handmade rotors spun to life—bringing big smiles and a powerful sense of accomplishment!
