November is National Diabetes Awareness Month—a time to learn more about diabetes, a condition that affects over 38 million children and adults in the United States. Every year, November 14th is also recognized as World Diabetes Day, marking an important opportunity to raise awareness, support those living with diabetes, and encourage early detection.
Did you know that Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes? Many people don’t realize they’re at risk, and some may have diabetes without even knowing it. The earlier it’s found, the better it can be managed to prevent serious complications.Common Symptoms of Diabetes
Some people experience symptoms so mild that they go unnoticed, but here are common warning signs to look out for:- Urinating often
- Feeling very thirsty
- Feeling very hungry—even though you’re eating
- Extreme fatigue
- Blurry vision
- Cuts or bruises that are slow to heal
- Weight loss—even though you’re eating more (type 1)
- Tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands or feet (type 2)
Early detection and treatment can help reduce the risk of serious health problems linked to diabetes.
