Local beekeeper and Clay County 4-H member Samuel Brown made a special guest
appearance during one of Hayesville Primary School’s second-grade The Busy World of Bees curriculum lessons. He was invited to teach the fourth lesson of the seven-part series, BeeHomes. Eager to share his passion, Samuel explained the importance of beekeeping, hive maintenance, the proper way to wear a beekeeping suit, and the significance of colors—both noticeable and unnoticeable—in beekeeping. He even brought a super, a key part of a honeybee hive, allowing students to see and learn about it up close.

Although Samuel has only been a beekeeper for a year, his firsthand knowledge and
enthusiasm captivated the class. He kept the students engaged throughout the lesson and confidently answered all their questions—the most popular being, "How many times have you been stung." Impressive for a 14-year-old beekeeper!
Samuel began his journey last year with two Italian bee colonies, producing honey under the name Brown’s Bees. His success has since allowed him to expand to six additional hives, including a local favorite, the hardy and resilient Russian bees. He shared his experiences and expertise with the students, inspiring curiosity and appreciation for the world of bees.
