Food Preservation Class Offered!

Food Preservation Classes

Canning, freezing, and drying are the three main methods of preserving food.  The method you choose is very important based on the food you are preserving and the recipe you are following.  Using a tested recipe is most important in order to prevent food spoilage and food born illness.  All foods have microorganisms.  We cannot see, smell, feel or taste these organisms.  If you do not process your food correctly, these organisms can quickly cause your food to spoil, or worse, cause severe illness or even death if eaten.

N.C. Cooperative Extension of Clay County will be hosting three food preservation classes including pressure canning, water bath canning, and preserving jams, jellies, and fruit butter.  The classes will be held at the Brasstown Community Civic Center located in beautiful Brasstown, NC on August 17 & 31, and September 14, 2021, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

The classes will be taught by our Family and Consumer Science Agent, Kim Terrell, and Brasstown’s very own, Carolyn Hall Anderson.

The classes will be demonstration only and space is limited.
